Hi, My Name is Eloisa.
Hi. I'm Eloisa and I had a medication abortion in New Mexico, in 2024.
I found out I was pregnant when I missed my period, and my first thought was: "Do I want this right now?" I decided to have a medication abortion because: my relationship was in shambles, I was in training for a healthcare field, I was not financially doing well, and later, my body responded very poorly to the pregnancy. I was so sick, I couldn't work or eat and lost weight, I was moody, unhappy, and tired.
I got my abortion pills through the mail.
From start to finish, the process was relieving, empowering, and simple. I took the pills at home, and I felt like I was having a very heavy period. I know it's worse for some women, but I wonder if it helped that the misoprostol was used vaginally rather than orally. I felt safe enough in my state that if I went to the ER during this process, I wouldn't be judged or criminalized if they saw the pills in my vagina.
What surprised me most was how much better I felt once the bleeding and cramping slowed down, I stopped having nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and I could eat whatever I wanted again.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to finish training and continue my career on my terms. I was able to leave my partner once it was clear the relationship wasn't going to work. I felt at peace with my decision. I'm sharing my story because it's a common one, and I want others to be able to have the same choices I had. No one should have to go through a pregnancy that is not right for them, whatever their reason is.
Medication abortion is normal, common, and amazingly empowering.
