Hi, My Name Is Frances.

Hi. I'm Frances and I had a medication abortion in New York in 2025.

I found out I was pregnant when I took a test (my partner and I had been TTC for a while), and my first thought was, "omg it's happening.” I decided to have a medication abortion because a routine ultrasound found I was miscarrying at 10 weeks, and I wanted to get it over with and keep trying as soon as possible.

I received my abortion pills through a clinic.

From start to finish, the process was straight-forward and fast. I took the pills at home, with my partner on stand-by to care for me, and I felt pissed off that people have to experience miscarriage at all; and I felt cared for and alone... all at once. What surprised me most was how much it was like a normal period, more intense at moments.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to process my grief with some sense of empowerment. I felt in control, and sad, and glad.

I’m sharing my story because abortion is just one part of healthcare, and people should not feel ashamed for caring of their health.

Medication abortion makes sense.
