Hi, My Name Is Jessica.
Hi. I'm Jessica and I had a medication abortion in Texas in 2008.
I found out I was pregnant when I had unprotected sex, and my first thought was, "I cannot have a baby right now.” I decided to have a medication abortion because I had one before and it was not as invasive as a surgical abortion. Plus I was only four weeks.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was a little weird because Texas. They made me wait a couple weeks but then the did give me the medication. I took the pills at home, and I felt relieved but also scared. It was fine. It was way less traumatic than I expected. What surprised me most was how it wasn’t that big of a deal physically. It was just like a period.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to keep working and not have a baby. I was also on drugs at the time so there was no way I could raise a child. I felt relief, control, and a little sadness but mostly relief.
I’m sharing my story because nobody should have to carry a pregnancy that they aren’t ready for. Abortion is healthcare and I do not regret doing it. It saved my life.
Medication abortion is healthcare.
