Hi. I'm Jules and I had a medication abortion in New York, in 1998.

I found out I was pregnant when I missed my period, and my first thought was: "The morning after pills that I purchased at a dodgy clinic didn’t work."

I decided to have a medication abortion because my (former) boyfriend was abusive and tried to kill me.

I got my pills from a clinic.

From start to finish, the process was easy, even though the cramping was bad and I did bleed a lot, but nothing that I wasn’t prepared for. I took the pills at home, and I felt relieved and safe.

What surprised me most was how quickly I was able to go back to my life.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to finish school, get my degree, embark on a wonderful career, and never have to be financially dependent on an abusive man. I felt Empowered and amazing.

I'm sharing my story because women and girls need to know that there are safe choices they can make and deserve to have the life they want. It’s absolutely cruel to force anyone to give birth against their will.
