Hi. I'm Kate and I had a medication abortion in Washington in 2019.

I found out I was pregnant when my period was late , and my first thought was, "I absolutely do not want to become a parent right now.” I decided to have a medication abortion because it was the safest, simplest, and most affordable solution for my situation.

I received my abortion pills through a clinic.

From start to finish, the process was simple, straightforward, and safe. I took the pills, one at the clinic and the rest at home, and I felt a little crampy and tired but overwhelmingly relieved. What surprised me most was how helpful my friends were before, during, and after. They did whatever they could to make the process easier for me, which continues to inspire me to help others.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to continue my education and explore a very new relationship without the pressures of pregnancy and parenthood. I felt relieved and also politically activated because it should be as easy for anyone else as it was for me.

I'm sharing my story because an unplanned pregnancy or life-threatening pregnancy complication is stressful enough without barriers to care that put people in danger every day.

Medication abortion has a lower rate of serious complications than Tylenol. I promise you know someone whose life has been improved by access to it. Restricting access to medication abortion will not make abortion more.
