Hi, My Name Is Molly,

Hi. I'm Molly and I had a medication abortion in New York in 2021 and 2023.

I found out I was pregnant when I took a pregnancy test, and my first thought was, "I am so excited to be a mom again."

I decided to have a medication abortion because both times the fetus expired at 8 weeks. I was heartbroken each time. My husband and I have a wonderful daughter, but we wanted another child desperately. Both times, we were heartbroken to lose our baby.

I decided to have a medication abortion because the first time I miscarried in 2020, I had a DNC at the hospital. Heartbreak followed by surgery and a full day away from my daughter was incredibly tough and traumatic. The medication abortion allowed me to work through my grief in the privacy of my home, surrounded by my family.

I got my abortion pills at a clinic.

From start to finish, the process was reassuring, calming, and private. I took the pills at home in my bedroom, and I felt sad but safe and calm. I felt like I had some control over what was happening to me.

What surprised me most was how quick and easy it was. The heartbreak from multiple miscarriages is hard, but the medication abortion allowed me the space to process the grief on my own terms and in the privacy of my home.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to deal with the pain and sadness and not have the added stress of freaking out about going to a hospital and getting general anesthesia and having to find childcare for my daughter so that my husband could be with me. I felt peace of mind. I was also happy that I could get it over with quickly so that I could have the space to process my emotions and my disappointment.

I'm sharing my story because I am sick and tired of people demonizing women for having to make tough choices about our bodies. Women have medication abortions for many reasons, and each decision is a hard one to make. Moreover, it is no one's business but our own. We know ourselves better than anyone and deserve the right to make sure we get the care we need.

Medication abortion is a human right.
