Hi, My Name Is Brittany.
Hi. I'm Brittany, and I had a medication abortion in CA in 2014.
I found out I was pregnant when I took a test on my lunch break at work because I missed my period, and my first thought was: "This isn't real." I decided to have a medication abortion because I was young, I lived in a 30ft trailer in one of the worst neighborhoods in San Jose, and my boyfriend didn't want a family. I had a low-paying job. I had been drinking with my friends every weekend since before finding out, and mostly, I wasn't ready to be a mother by myself.
I received my abortion pills at a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was hard, sad, and lonely. I took the pills at home, and I felt pain and sadness. What surprised me most was how minimal of a medical procedure it was and how quickly I went back to my normal everyday activities.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to find an amazing partner in life who supports me, go back to school, start a family when I was ready, buy our first home, and move out of a camper! I felt grateful to the professionals who helped me when I was at my lowest.
I'm sharing my story because it's important to change the narrative around abortions and to get truthful information out about the abortion pill so that young women have the opportunity to be informed before agreeing to vote their rights away.
Medication abortion gave me the choice to steer my life to a more positive place where I could flourish and be the parent, partner, and community member I always wanted to be.
