Hi, My Name Is Cayla.
Hi. I'm Cayla and I had a medication abortion in Michigan in 2000.
I found out I was pregnant when I started vomiting multiple times a day with no other symptoms, and my first thought was, "This will ruin my life.” I decided to have a medication abortion because it was an accident with an abusive alcoholic boyfriend, we still lived with our parents, and I was still in college.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was simple, safe, and effective. I took the pills at home, and I felt relief that I could finish my education, dump the boyfriend, and get out my awful hometown. What surprised me most was how safe, effective, and empowering it was to have control over my own body.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to get my degree, move to a different state, meet my now husband, and start a family from a safe, stable, and loving start. I felt In control.
I’m sharing my story because all women deserve bodily autonomy.
Medication abortion is safe, necessary, and a basic human right.
