Hi, My Name Is Christine.
Hi. I'm Christine and I had a medication abortion in Minnesota in 2005.
I found out I was pregnant when I missed my period, and my first thought was this couldn't be happening at a worse time. I never wanted kids, let alone when I'm single, in my 20’s, and making $7 an hour. I decided to have a medication abortion because I knew abortion was the only way forward for me and I felt that a medication abortion would be much more comfortable and private than a surgical one.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was straightforward, simple, and judgement-free. I took the pills at my partner's apartment, and I felt a little nervous but so glad I had him to support me. The cramping was rough but nothing I couldn't handle. What surprised me most was that I really didn't have any guilt around it. I knew that I did the right thing for myself, my partner, and society. I was in no position to bring a kid into the world.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to continue living the life I knew I wanted since I was 13 years old - a life without children. I'm 46 now and still happily child-free with a life partner who never wanted kids either. I felt so glad I was able to maintain my autonomy and I'm so grateful for that.
I'm sharing my story because no one should be forced to carry a pregnancy they don't want for ANY reason.
Medication abortion is healthcare that everyone should have access to when they need it.
