Hi, My Name Is Emily.
Hi. I'm Emily, and I had a medication abortion in Washington in 2010.
I found out I was pregnant when my normally regular cycle was a week late, and my first thought was: "No. This can't happen." I decided to have a medication abortion because my partner and abuser (future ex) was in his first year of sobriety, and I was barely holding myself together amidst the drama. I couldn't bring a child into that situation.
I received my abortion pills from a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was accessible and simple, if not inexpensive. I took the pills at our rental house, and I felt relieved, even through the discomfort. What surprised me most was how quickly I was able to recover and get back to fixing my life.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to choose when I became a mother, which I did 5 years later. I felt so grateful and relieved to have that option.
I'm sharing my story because women deserve to choose if and when they have a child.
Medication abortion is the bare minimum.
