Hi. I'm Fae and I had a medication abortion in California in 2021.

I found out I was pregnant when I was having extreme period symptoms, but the blood never came. I went to urgent care where they informed me that I was pregnant, and my first thought was, "time to book an appointment at the clinic.” I decided to have a medication abortion because I don't want kids, and I especially don't want to go through pregnancy.

I received my abortion pills through a clinic.

From start to finish, the process was quick and simple. I took the pills at the clinic and then at home the next day, and I felt nauseous at first, and I threw up, then I started bleeding shortly after. I could feel the cramps creep in, and they felt like routine period cramps for the most part, although they would get pretty intense while passing larger blood clots. What surprised me most was I was shocked by the massive blood clots that came out, but I otherwise felt completely normal.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to make the right decision for myself and continue living my fruitful, child-free life. I felt thankful that I was able to make my own choice, but somber about those of us that don't have the same access.

I'm sharing my story because it's important to destigmatize abortion care.

Medication abortion is as normal as antibiotics.
