Hi, My Name Is Heather.
Hi. I'm Heather and I had a medication abortion in Oregon in 2018.
I found out I was pregnant when I felt sick and so I took a pregnancy test, and my first thought was, "I already have 3 kids and I’m not equipped to have another one right now.” I decided to have a medication abortion because I had just moved, I didn’t have a steady job, and was caring for my 3 kids already. I was not ready for another kid.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was simple, compassionate, and professional. I took the pills at the clinic and at home, and I felt extremely crampy for about 4 hours and tired for a day, but mostly just relieved. What surprised me most was how happy I was to not have to have a baby. I felt great about my decision.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to get on my feet with work, and then intentionally have a baby 2 years later. I felt proud of myself and happy other people in my state have the same choices I did.
I'm sharing my story because sharing our stories liberates us from oppression and shame.
