Hi, My Name Is Jane Doe.
Hi. I'm Jane Doe, and I had a medication abortion in Utah in 2022.
I found out I was pregnant when I missed a period, and my first thought was: "How will I be a mother to my abuser’s child when I just escaped this awful relationship and have a child already who needs a mentally healthy mother?" I decided to have a medication abortion because I had left an absolutely awful, abusive relationship. Three weeks after leaving, I got my positive test. I was scared that if he found out I was pregnant, he would stalk me worse than he already was. I knew I needed to be there for my child, who was 5 & needed their mother.
I received my abortion pills from a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was lonely, scary, yet almost painless. I took the pills at my home, and I felt scared. What surprised me most was how quickly everything passed and the minimal pain.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to successfully leave an abusive relationship, follow through with court (he is now in prison for the abuse), I was able to continue to raise my child, be present for my family & work on my own mental health. I felt Freedom and like I finally had control.
I'm sharing my story because without my medical abortion, my life would be so much different today, and not in a good way.
Medication abortion is a human right.
