Hi, My Name Is Janet.
Hi. I'm Janet and I had a medication abortion in New Jersey in 1997.
I found out I was pregnant when I missed my period and was three days late, and my first thought was, "No!!!” I decided to have a medication abortion because it was early in the pregnancy, so a shot and some pills were preferable to an actual D&C. I passed a clot about 3 days after the mifepristone shot. I was very grateful.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was one shot, then insert 4 pills of some stomach med that promotes bleeding into my vagina at home. I took the pills at home, and I felt grateful. What surprised me most was the ease of the solution to my healthcare dilemma.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to not bring an unwanted pregnancy to term. I felt relief and gratitude that it was available in my state of New Jersey.
I’m sharing my story because we need to fight for the right to our bodily autonomy. You don't see any one telling a male not to get a vasectomy... same thing!
