Hi. I'm Joy and I had a medication abortion in California in 2015.

I found out I was pregnant when my partner sabotaged our birth control and Plan B wasn’t effective, and my first thought was, "I don’t want this.” I decided to have a medication abortion because I did not want a child with this person.

I received my abortion pills through the mail.

From start to finish, the process was easy, crampy, relieving. I took the pills at work (not ideal), and I felt mild cramping, followed by relief. What surprised me most was how safe and effective the process was.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to have my own child when I was ready. In fact I’ve carried as a surrogate for 2 other couples too. I felt empowered.

I'm sharing my story because medical abortion is safe and a necessary option.
