Hi, My Name Is Krista.
Hi. I'm Krista, and I had a medication abortion in Tennessee in 2007.
I found out I was pregnant when I missed my period and had bad cramps, and my first thought was: "Oh no. I’m not ready. How did this happen when I’m on birth control?" I decided to have a medication abortion because I have bipolar disorder. It’s taken me a lot of work to become stable. I’m a productive member of society. Part of this is because the medication I take works. When I found out I was pregnant, they took my medications from me. They gave me one antidepressant that didn’t work for me in the past. I knew this would be dangerous for me. I didn’t want to lose my job or my life. It was an easy decision.
I received my abortion pills from an organization.
From start to finish, the process was easy, private, and simple. I took the pills at my ex-boyfriend’s house, and I felt relief. What surprised me most was how it felt like a heavy period.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to further my education, travel, and meet my wonderful husband. I felt in control of my life.
I'm sharing my story because no one should be taken off life-saving medication due to an unwanted pregnancy. Medication abortion saves lives in many ways.
