Hi, My Name Is Nicole.

Hi. I'm Nicole and I had a medication abortion in Michigan in 2024.

I found out I was pregnant when I took a test at home, and my first thought was, “It only took a few months for me to get pregnant,” I was so excited. I decided to have a medication abortion because I started to bleed a little and something didn't feel right, so I went to the hospital. They couldn't find a baby anywhere. Over the next 2 months I had to get my hcg levels tested and another ultrasound to prove I was still pregnant but it was not viable. I had what they call a missed miscarriage. I was in my late 30's, this was the first time I was pregnant. I finally decided it was the right time to have a child and my body wasn't letting me. It really sucked.

I received my abortion pills at a clinic.

From start to finish, the process was educational, no drama, heartbreaking. I took the pills at home, and I felt relief that I would be able to start trying to conceive again as soon as I was all healed. Once the medication started to work it was very painful, but only last long enough to pass the tissue. What surprised me most was I wasn't aware of the term ‘missed miscarriage’, I thought if I had a miscarriage I would bleed out like my aunt did.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to continue trying to conceive without any issues and now have a baby girl. I felt relieved that I was in a state that allowed me to get the care I needed, but also sad for others who were not as lucky as I was.

I'm sharing my story because I want others to know that abortions are a medical right and people a dying without proper healthcare.

Medication abortion is healthcare that everyone should have access to if they need or choose to.
