Hi. I'm Amarie and I had a medication abortion in Texas in 2023.

I found out I was pregnant when my period was several days late, and my first thought was, " Oh no, this is the worst thing ever,” and I cried. I decided to have a medication abortion because I already had five kids, and I was in an abusive relationship and I did not want to be stuck with this man any longer than I needed to. I was already planning to leave and getting things in order when I found out I was pregnant. I absolutely could not afford another kid.

I received my abortion pills through the mail.

From start to finish, the process was easier than I expected. I took the pills at home after my abusive boyfriend left for work, and I felt nervous but ready for this whole thing to be over with. What surprised me most was it was only slightly more uncomfortable than my regular period cramps but much less painful than giving birth.

Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to escape this abusive man. I felt extremely relieved.
