Hi, My Name Is Kate.
Hi. I'm Kate, and I had a medication abortion in CT in 2011.
I found out I was pregnant when I kept feeling nauseous, and a colleague told me to take a pregnancy test, and my first thought was "This can't be possible." I decided to have a medication abortion because I was a bartender living with her parents, with a drinking habit, and no real way to support a baby in the way I knew they deserved. I wanted kids... desperately. But with the right person, I would be able to give them the best start in life and the kind of childhood I had.
I received my abortion pills from a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was frightening, a little complicated, then supportive and easy. I took the pills at home, and I felt emotional, a little scared, but confident in my choice. What surprised me most was the cramping and the bleeding, but the peace I ultimately had with my decision.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to keep my job, travel the world, and ultimately move abroad. I felt grateful for the ability to make the right choice for myself and my partner.
I'm sharing my story because real stories are what matter - no, not every part of this was easy. Some of it was very difficult for me, but I have never doubted that it was the right decision. Never.
Medication abortion is healthcare, it's safe, it's life-saving, and it is a woman's choice.
