Hi, My Name Is Laurel.
Hi. I'm Laurel and I had a medication abortion in Oregon in 2001.
I found out I was pregnant when I missed period, and my first thought was, "I can’t have a child with this man.” I decided to have a medication abortion because it was less invasive than a procedural one.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was private, safe, and quick. I took the pills at home, and I felt relief. What surprised me most was how simple it was.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to not raise a child with a physically abusive man. I felt free to leave him with no strings attached.
I’m sharing my story because no one should have to give birth to a child and raise them with a father who can’t control his anger and jealousy.
Medication abortion has been around for thousands of years and it is our right as women to be able to decide if, when, and with whom we become a mother.
