Hi, My Name Is Samantha.
Hi. I'm Samantha and I had a medication abortion in Ohio in 2020.
I found out I was pregnant when I missed my period during Covid, and my first thought was, "I can't wait to complete our family.” I decided to have a medication abortion because our baby wasn't developing correctly, and at 12 weeks, my OBGYN was concerned about if we waited much longer, actually having access to any other abortion options. During Covid, abortions were hard to come by and Ohio was already making it difficult to get medical treatment for abortions. Being able to have a medication abortion meant I was able to stay safe in my home during the peak of Covid with my family and grieve in peace.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was private, empowering, and healthy. I took the pills at home, and I felt safe. What surprised me most was how easy it was.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to one year later give birth to my son. I felt relief.
I’m sharing my story because no one should have to share their story, but I tell mine every chance I get. They shouldn't be filled with shame because they happen for different reasons and each one should be treated with respect. They are personal decisions.
Medication abortion allowed me a chance to complete my family.
