Hi, My Name Is Monica.
Hi. I'm Monica, and I had a medication abortion in NY in 2006.
I found out I was pregnant when I woke up the morning after unprotected sex with an ex, and my first thought was: "I’m not sure how I can have this baby." I decided to have a medication abortion because I lived in NYC as a single woman, paycheck to paycheck, and didn’t feel like going home to Mom was an emotionally healthy situation. I was 36 years old.
I received my abortion pills at a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was efficient and private. I took the pills at the first pill at the clinic, second at home, and I felt scared and determined to be strong. What surprised me most was that it was worse than my usual periods, but over in a few hours, as far as the cramps.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to choose a better outcome for my future. I felt Sad yet relieved I could remain independent.
I'm sharing my story because anyone can make mistakes, and pregnancy is an enormous responsibility I wasn’t ready for.
Medication abortion is safe and will help women have control over their lives.
