Hi, My Name Is Nikiya.
Hi. I'm Nikiya and I had a medication abortion in Texas in 2013.
I found out I was pregnant when I was navigating a challenging period in life, and my first thought was, “Oh, hell no.” I decided to have a medication abortion because it felt less medicalized than alternative options.
I received my abortion pills through a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was difficult to navigate, painful, and scary. I took the pills at home, and I felt alone in every sense of the word. What surprised me most was learning that the state imposed SO MANY BARRIERS and that I'd feel so much stigma for something that is extremely safe and normal.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to build a family when I was ready to build a family. I felt free and at peace.
I’m sharing my story because I want others to know that abortion is normal, common, and good, and so they know they are not alone.
Medication abortion saved my life. Literally.
