Hi, My Name Is Olympia.
Hi. I'm Olympia, and I had a medication abortion in Washington in 2008.
I found out I was pregnant when my periods had been different, so I took a test, and my first thought was: "Of all times, not now." I decided to have a medication abortion because I was an itinerant worker with an addict husband and had been suffering from poor health in the past year.
I received my abortion pills at a clinic.
From start to finish, the process was confidential, professional, and with many supportive women in a positive clinic. I took the pills at a state park we camped at to attend the clinic appointment, and I felt afraid of my partner but very sure of my decision.
What surprised me most was how my body responded so easily and how quickly I recovered- less stressful than a heavy period.
Because I had access to medication abortion, I was able to continue to work at the jobs I had arranged and afford to eat and live.
I felt empowered, relieved, and sure that I had made the best decision for me and my safety.
I'm sharing my story because this is a situation any uterus having person could be in. It was safe and the right answer, which is only a conclusion a person and their doctor should make.
Medication abortion saves lives, prevents abuse, poverty, and suffering. And it is safer than pregnancy.
